The Penguin Atlas of World History
Herman Kinder and Werner Hilgemann
tranlsated by Ernest E. Menze
with maps by Harald and Ruth Bukor Penguin Books

The volumes are slightly small than most Penguin paperbacks. They measure 111 by 181 mm. They are remarkably dense, both physically (they use high-quality glazed paper) and with information. I cannot think of more information-rich volumes to fit easily into a jacket pocket.

Volume 1 runs from the origins of civilisation to the partition of Poland. Volume 2 runs from the French Revolution to 1990.

Volume 1 is available (in a newer edition than the one shown above) from amazon.com and from amazon.co.uk.

Volume 2 is available (in a newer edition than the one shown above) from amazon.com and from amazon.co.uk.
