This map has two paper overlays pasted to it. When both overlays are folded away, the reader sees the positions of troops at the start of the battle. When the first one is folded down over the map, later positions are shown. When both are folded down, their positions in the evening are shown.

This plate shows the late positions, with both overlays in use (only the later one is visible, the other is now beneath it).
